How to create a Boundary Layer in COMSOL Multiphysics

In Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), the boundary layer implementation is a very important and vital step in order to capture all properties near the walls. In this tip Simulation of Supersonic Air-to-Air Ejector CMS is used to illustrate this.

Right-click Mesh 2 and choose Boundary Layers.

Boundary Layer Properties

  1. In the Settings window for Boundary Layer Properties, locate the Boundary Selection section.
  2. From the Selection list, choose Walls.
  3. In the list, choose 4, 5, and 8.
  4. Click Remove from Selection.
  5. Select Boundaries 6, 7, 9, and 11–15 only.
  6. Locate the Boundary Layer Properties section. In the Number of boundary layers text field, type 5.
  7. From the Thickness of first layer list, choose Manual.
  8. In the Thickness text field, type 5e-5.

  1. In the Model Builder window, right-click Boundary Layers 1 and choose Boundary Layer Properties.
  2. In the Settings window for Boundary Layer Properties, locate the Boundary Layer Properties section.
  3. In the Number of boundary layers text field, type 10.
  4. From the Thickness of first layer list, choose Manual.
  5. In the Thickness text field, type 1e-5.
  6. Select Boundaries 4, 5, and 8 only (select the walls of both the primary inlet and the nozzle).
